Yum Yum! I truly found a favorite in Arico's peanut butter cookies- and I still can't believe they are gluten free. These taste like childhood peanut butter cookies- minus the criss-cross fork imprint and the fact they are chewier than I remember. But still- these come the closest. So delicious; totally rich peanut buttery and there are actual peanuts baked right in. These are not to be missed!
Ingredients:
Organic peanut butter, flour base (organic brown rice whole grain flour, rice starches, rice protein, baking soda), organic cane sugar, organic cage free eggs, chicory extract, organic agave nectar, organic quinoa flour, calcium carbonate, natural flavor, sea salt. Contains eggs and peanuts.

Cookies: Arico Lemon Ginger
Here's another cookie made by Arico that is completely different than the expected chocolate chip/chocolate chunk.
Made with organic grains, Arico's Lemon Ginger cookie is zesty with visible ginger pieces. This is a cookie filled with citrus tang- but is no delicate tea cake to be sure. I really like these- they are bold and different- but of course still moist and chewy. These would make a great dessert with a scoop of ice cream- and no one would be the wiser that it's gluten free.
Ingredients:
Flour base (organic brown rice whole grain flour, rice starches, rice protein, baking soda), organic cage free eggs, organic agave nectar, diced ginger (ginger, sugar), chicory extract, organic cane sugar, organic palm oil, organic sunflower/safflower oil, calcium carbonate, citric acid, natural flavor, lemon oil, ginger, sea salt. Cookies: Arico Chocolate Chunk
It's tough not to like chocolate chip cookies - no matter what. Arico makes a tasty gluten free chocolate chunk version that is hard to put down. It does have a bit of the aftertaste that is due to it's non-gluten ingredients- but not hard to overlook. The cookies are moist and chewy and with large chocolate pieces. The cookies are efficiently packaged in a re-sealable pouch and contain 4.76 ounces. Likely re-sealing won't be a problem- Rob only left me 2 to review.
Arico chocolate chunk cookies contain no trans fat, no preservatives, no artificial color or flavor, are a source of fiber, plus contain calcium, and are certified organic.
Ingredients:
Flour base (organic brown rice whole grain flour, rice starches, rice protein, baking soda), organic dark chocolate (organic cane sugar, organic cocoa paste, organic cocoa butter, non GMO soy lecithin, organic vanilla, [chunks may contain traces of milk protein due to manufacturing equipment]), organic cage free eggs, organic cane sugar, chicory extract, organic agave nectar, organic palm oil, organic sunflower/safflower oil, calcium carbonate, natural flavor, sea salt. Contains eggs, soy and may contain traces of milk protein.

Cookies: Enjoy Life Soft Baked Snickerdoodles
Loving Wegmans! Last week we found Enjoy Life's Soft Baked Snickerdoodle cookies. These are gluten free, vegan, kosher, contain no trans fat and no artificial anything. But what they do contain is unparalleled cookie delight. We almost drove off the road they were so amazing!
Gluten free, soft, buttery and with a hint of caramel and cinnamon, we couldn't stop until they were gone! They look like small molasses cookies- round and with a slight indent in the bottom- but that's where the similarities end.
I can't keep them in the house if Rob knows about them.

Cookies: Everybody Eats Chocolate Chip Cookies
Just want you all to know that I died and went to gluten free heaven after trying Everybody Eats Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Wow these are incredibly special. Not only do they taste exactly like regular gluten choco chip cookies, I think they might be better.
These cookies are crisp, buttery and are packed with juicy chocolate bits that are simply pure decadence. I can't get over how much they resemble gourmet hand-made cookies in size and taste. They are outrageously good- that's all I can say.
If you can stop yourselves from devouring the entire bag, it is highly recommended that the cookies be stored in an air-tight container.
Ingredients:
Rice flour, tapioca flour, cornstarch, potato flour, sorghum flour, butter, 0% transfat vegetable shortening, evaporated cane juice, molasses, baking soda, salt, vanilla, whole eggs, xanthan gum, chocolate.
Allergy Information: May contain soy, peanut or other nut oils.
New weight 11 oz.

Cookies: Nana's No Gluten Chocolate Crunch
I had the ultimate luck in coming across Nana's No Gluten Ginger cookie, so I went ahead and tried Nana's No Gluten Chocolate Crunch cookie. I think I found the perfect gluten free chocolate cookie. This celiac-safe delight is bursting with chocolate flavor and has a crunchy bite to boot. It is dense, not too sweet, and not too heavy a cookie that is perfect for satisfying chocolate cravings. It also has an utterly satisfying creamy chocolate aftertaste that simply hits the spot. Best of all, this gluten free beauty has no refined sugars, no dairy, no hydrogenated oils, no cholesterol, no eggs, no added salt, and no cane or beet products.
Nana's homemade gluten-free chocolate taste is to die for!

Cookies: Nana's Ginger Cookie
While shopping at the local natural food market the other day, I found Nana's No Gluten Ginger Cookie in a single size wrapped package. Containing no eggs, no dairy, no refined sugar, no dairy, no hydrogenated oils, no cholesterol, no added salt, no GMO's, no cane or beet products, Nana's ginger cookie is fruit sweetened and made with all natural ingredients.
Can I just say how much I love this cookie? It's dense soft, moist, gluten free, and chock full of edgy ginger with a hint of cinnamon. It really does taste like the gluten version without the heavy denseness. It does have a slightly crumbly texture once you actually begin chewing, but then again that's generally the mark of gluten free snacks. I highly recommend this one!
Rob my favorite celiac, also liked this cookie.

Cookies: Mi-Del Arrowroot Animal Crackers
Who'd a thought?? MI-DEL has created a great tasting wheat free and gluten free animal cracker. These all natural cookies are a perfect celiac-safe cookie. Never mind feeling slightly juvenile eating the animal-shaped treats, these are worth it.
MI-DEL's arrowroot cookies are crisp and crunchy and not too sweet, and definitely resemble gluten animal crackers. Rob did say he thought they looked over-cooked and a bit too brown, but believe me, your taste buds are colorblind.
Ingredients:
The cookies contain gluten-free flour (corn flour, soy flour, potato flour, corn starch, rice flour, potato starch, xanthan gum), organic dehydrated cane juice, canola oil, arrowroot flour, butter, whole eggs, corn starch, honey, natural flavors, soy lecithin (used as an emulsifier), baking soda, sea salt.
The package also states that although "produced in a facility that processes milk, peanuts, tree nuts and wheat, MI-DEL Gluten free products are routinely tested using the ELISA method to ensure gluten free status as determined by the World Health Organization."

Cookies: Food-Tek Chocolate Chip
Ah the disappointment! I attempted to whip up a batch of Food-Tek's Quick-Bake, wheat-free, gluten free, trans fat free, enriched chocolate chip cookies, but had little success.
The gluten free chocolate chip mix, like other Food-Tek products comes with its own measuring cup, and multiple packs of mix- in this case 4.
I followed the directions initially which said to preheat the oven to 375 degrees, add contents of mix to a bowl, then add 5 cc of water and 1 tsp. of softened butter, then mix until well blended.
Perhaps I've stated this before with previous Food-Tek reviews, but the little cup needed to measure the water in never seems to have a clearly indicated mark. 5 cc's in reality is about a teaspoon's worth of liquid. So I put in the 5 cc's and mixed and mixed and not surprisingly I couldn't get it past a powder. How could I possibly drop by rounded teaspoons?? So natch I added more water, but of course it was too much water- like maybe a whole tablespoon? It just was so ludicrous.
In the oven, the rounded blobs all blended into one another, though I was still hoping for the best after 8 minutes of baking.
The cookies were uh rather crumbly, delicate would be the clear understatement here, with a taste that might have clearly begun as cookie-like, but soon became decidedly glue-like. "Glue" was Rob's term for them.
It has always been my opinion that Food-Tek products resemble more Easy Bake Oven snacks (anyone remember those?), geared for kids with celiac, than actual food products. So I guess I was left feeling utterly inept that I couldn't bake up some decent gluten free cookies. Yeah, easy for children, and impossible for adults!
So perhaps all you celiac readers out there will have a much better experience with Food-Tek's chocolate chip cookies than me.
Happy Mixing!

Cookies: 'Cause You're Special, Inc. Classic Sugar Cookie
It's been a while since I've made gluten free cookies, so I wanted to give 'Cause You're Special Classic Sugar Cookies a try.
The wheat free, gluten free, casein free cookies were easy to make and required (only) 1/2 cup cold butter, 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. I mixed first with a beater then managed to mold into a ball and refrigerated for 1 hour.
I rolled out the dough onto a (gluten free) floured surface and cut into shapes using a Williams-Sonoma cookie cutter, then baked for 15 minutes.
The cookies emerged appropriately pale and just brown on the underside. I let cool and gave to Rob to taste. He was happy to report they were light, crisp and buttery. To me they tasted just like gluten sugar cookies with only a hint of the rice flour aftertaste. We have success! Celiac sufferers will enjoy these cookies.

Cookies: Glutano Lemon Cream Filled Wafers
Glutano’s Lemon cream filled wafers are wheat free and gluten free, perfect for Celiacs and suitable for vegetarians. Three layers of crispy waffle wafers surround a lemony cream which meld nicely together on the palate. These cookies are surprising light, not too sweet and refreshingly lemon infused. They are almost like little cakes- and you would be hard-pressed to tell that they are gluten free! Rob and I highly recommend them.
Ingredients:
Lemon cream 69% (unhydrogenated vegetable fat (palm and rape oil), sugar, sweet whey powder, emulsifier (soya lecithin), acidulant citric acid, natural lemon flavour), maize flour, potato starch, emulsifier (soya lecithin), salt, thickener (guar gum), raising agent (ammonium hydrogen carbonate), antioxydant (ascorbic acid). Cookies: Glutano Ginger Cookies
Well, Rob keeps bringing home the Glutano gluten free celiac products- so here is another review to add to the collection.
Glutano’s Ginger Cookies are wheat free, gluten free and suitable for vegetarians. As Glutano is based in the
Taste:
The gluten free ginger cookies are a rich molasses color. On first bite, I noticed a ginger tang within the crumbly inside. I was hoping for a crisper, crunchier cookie instead of the one I was eating. At first I thought maybe the cookies were stale- but the end of the box was stamped fresh until August, 2007. So what can I say- the ginger cookies just aren’t that good. Perhaps they sat on a hot shelf somewhere. Though I would say the gluten free ginger cookies do resemble a gluten cookie of sorts, they are decidedly more like a ginger shortbread cookie with a whopping 4 g of saturated fat and 60 of the total 130 calories from fat, per serving. That’s steep for a not so great tasting cookie!
Ingredients:
Raw sugar, unhardened vegetable oil, rice flour, maize starch, maize flour, lupin flour, caramelized sugar syrup, spice (ginger), raising agent (ammonium hydrogen carbonate, sodium carbonate), sea salt, thickener guar gum. May contain traces of nuts, eggs, and milk products.

Cookies: Pamela's Almond Anise Biscotti
The second Pamela’s product I tried was the Almond Anise Biscotti. These too are wheat-free and gluten-free and contain a pungent mix of anise and almond. They are twice baked to ensure they’ll stay crunchy in your favorite beverage. The anise almond biscotti are satisfying and not too sweet, just like their chocolate walnut counterpart. It does seem though that the almond anise biscotti disintegrate more quickly than the chocolate walnut. The cookie just seems to break up faster in your mouth-meaning there’s no prolonging the biscotti experience for a longer time! I believe it may be because the almond anise is finer in consistency. Still I can’t help but be impressed by the delicious taste.
Never mind that these are gluten free, these are the best biscotti I’ve had in a while - a perfect treat for celiacs.
Ingredients:
Brown rice base (brown rice flour, white rice flour, tapioca starch, sweet rice flour, xanthan gum); molasses and honey; butter, egg whites, almonds, white rice flour, natural almond flavor, natural vanilla flavor, natural anise flavor, grainless and aluminum free baking powder (sodium bicarbonate, sodium acid pyrophosphate, potato starch); sea salt, baking soda, xanthan gum.

Cookies: Mi-Del Gluten Free Double Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
These chocolate treats are very similar to full gluten Oreos. They have crispy chocolate tops and bottoms, but contain a layer of chocolate cream in the center. The cookies are not as sweet as the Royal Vanilla sandwich cookie, which makes them in my mind even tastier. I think it’s because the chocolate cream is less dense than the thicker Royal Vanilla.
The true test was their “dunk-ability” in milk. Once dunked, the Mi-Del remained extremely crunchy. They don’t have quite the same consistency as an Oreo, but it’s very close. Rob, my favorite celiac, enjoyed them immensely.
I couldn't find a site for Mi-Del only for their distributor, Liberty Richter.
Ingredients:
Cookie: Gluten free flour (contains corn flour, soya flour, potato flour, corn starch, rice flour, potato starch, xanthan gum), organic dehydrated cane juice, canola oil, cocoa, egg, high fructose corn syrup, corn starch, natural flavor, sea salt, soybean lecithin (used as an emulsifier), baking soda

Cookies: Mi-Del Gluten Free Royal Vanilla Sandwich Cookies
Mi-Del’s Gluten-free sandwich cookies are as close a match to regular gluten sandwich cookies as I’ve ever tasted. Literally there is no difference. With the same crunchy top and bottom halves securing a disk of creamy sweet vanilla sugar in the middle, it’s easy to be fooled. The Mi-Del brand of royal vanilla are just as sweet too, and are also imprinted with the same curly-cue imprint in the shortbread.
If you are seeking to forget your celiac status and recall the taste of gluten foods, Mi-Del’s Royal Vanilla Sandwich Cookies are for you. The cookies are sweet, contain a high amount of fat as well as several unhealthy ingredients including high fructose corn syrup. They most certainly satisfy Rob’s sugar cravings!
Again I couldn't find a site for Mi-Del only for their distributor, Liberty Richter.
Ingredients:
Cookie: Gluten free flour (contains corn flour, soya flour, potato flour, corn starch, rice flour, potato starch, xanthan gum), organic dehydrated cane juice, canola oil, egg, high fructose corn syrup, corn starch, natural flavor, sea salt, soybean lecithin (used as emulsifier), baking soda

Wafers: Glutano Wafers
Another celiac product to taste-test was Glutano Wafers. These are an interesting food item that are certainly crunchy and light, but left me wondering how I would use them. They come packaged in a large stack. Each wafer is a flat rectangular stamped with a waffle pattern. The wafers are quite bland and don’t have much going for them, save for their high crunch factor. They aren’t sweet, salty, bitter or savory, and have no fat, no sugar, no protein and no fiber. Not surprisingly, the wafers don’t really taste like anything. Though they did remind me of crisp bread, the wafers looked more like dessert crackers. I can’t imagine using them for ice-cream or as a garnish however. If anyone out there can find a recipe for them, I would love to have it to try out.
So while, these certainly are gluten free and wheat free, I’m not sure what to do with them. They aren’t too satisfying on their own!!

Cookies- Orgran Natural Choc Chip Biscotti
Lately Rob has been on a gluten-free buying spree and voila he surprised me with chocolate chip biscotti cookies by Orgran Natural. The bite-sized cookies are wheat free, gluten free, dairy free, casein free, yeast free, egg free and edible for vegans. They look charmingly tasty, though looks can be deceiving I soon discovered. I wouldn’t say Orgran Biscotti are bad, just confused. On first bite the biscotti seemed stale, even though they weren’t. Perhaps it was because they so resembled a cookie that I was surprised by the airy lightness of a biscotti. But then, I tasted more coconut rather than airy lightness. Was this a coconut cookie or a chocolate chip biscotti? I would have to go with the former. Admittedly Orgran’s biscotti does grow on you, and I found myself popping several into my mouth. So if you do purchase Orgran’s biscotti, just be prepared for a more coconut cookie than a chocolate chip biscotti.
On the very plus side, Orgran’s Natural Choc Chip Biscotti contains an impressive list of non-chemical ingredients (minus the palm kernel oil) including:
Maize starch, water, raw sugar, palm vegetable oil, rice flour, 11% coconut desiccated, choc chips 9.0% (cane sugar, palm kernel oil, soy flour, cocoa mass, emulsifier: soy lecithin), brown rice syrup, pea flour, cocoa powder, emulsifier: monoglycerides from vegetable, natural vanilla flavour, sodium bicarbonate, salt. Made from local and imported materials.

Cookies: Glutano Tea Biscuits
Wow I think we will have sampled all of Glutano's products before long! Moving right along to the tea biscuits, Glutano makes a tea biscuit that is also suitable for vegetarians. The biscuits are made from maize starch, maize flour, sugar, unhardened vegetable fat (palm oil), lupin flour, emulsifier lecithin (soy), sea salt, raising agent (ammonium hydrogen carbonate, sodium carbonate), vanilla.
As is typical of Glutano packaging, the tea biscuits are efficiently sold in a 4.4 oz box with approx. 20 cookies in the sleeve.

Before I make any taste observations, I should note that I don't normally indulge in tea biscuits- though an afternoon brew always seems like such a good idea. In any case, I don't love these- I know, I know, tea biscuits are not intended to cause a culinary explosion in my mouth- but these are just plain dull. Certainly they are light, sweet and flaky in every way that cookies should be, but there is something lacking. I'm not even sure if it's the butter or salt to be honest. I do believe these tea biscuits would work well with a piping cup of Earl Grey, though I I think I'd rather save my calories for something a bit more decadent!

Cookies: Glutano Custard Cream Biscuits
Eh Voila! Here is a review of Glutano brand Custard Cream Biscuits. These are gluten-free sandwich cookies with vanilla cream filling.
The cookies contain: Vanilla cream (unhardened vegetable oil, sugar, sweet whey powder, whole milk powder, lactose, emulsifier (soya lecithin), natural flavour, maize starch, sugar, maize flour, unhardened vegetable oil (palm oil), lupin flour, fructose, sea salt, thickener guar gum, raising agent (ammonium hydrogen carbonate).

My first thought on these custard creams is that they seem so European -(which of course they are). After tasting, they seem like a cookie intended to be eaten occasionally, and not in large quantity. They certainly could not be consumed like say, a handful of oreos with a glass of milk- though that's probably a good thing. Appearance-wise, the custard creams are much lighter than they appear on the face of the package. After sinking my teeth in, I was met with a rather unexpected rush of sugar.
I instantly thought cavities!
Seriously the custard cream is a thick slab of pure sucrose-flavored vanilla. Once into the cream, I realized I had a second cookie to get through to finish the biscuit. The cookie wafers themselves also seemed to be denser and heavier than necessary. Perhaps if the wafers were lighter in taste- or even half as sweet, the cream wouldn't seem so overwhelming. But then again, maybe it's me. I'll check to see what Rob thinks. He's the one who's craving the sweets!
Update: Rob tried them and they were too sweet for his taste, but then again we both try to eat healthy.
