While Rob and I were shopping for new sneakers we came across a rather large supply of energy bars. This particular one is a Cherry Chunk Fudge Organic Maca Bar from Potent Foods. Said to contain 5000 mg. organic maca from the Andes Mountains of Peru, I was a bit skeptical as to its taste. Nicely though this is a cold-processed, doctor formulated, gluten free, soy free, non GMO, low sodium, dairy free, wheat free and cholesterol free product that is also USDA Organic, Kosher and Vegan Certified. Besides it's cherry chunk fudge, how bad could it be?
Appearance-wise it resembles most pressed chocolaty logs. On this one though there are visible cherries protruding out. It has a chewy/crunchy texture and I would say it's more of a dried fruit flavor with only a hint of chocolate. It's not terribly sweet either. It's definitely decent enough but I don't love it. It doesn't have a distinct flavor and there is a bit of a tang at the end.
Obviously these are perfect to tote along for a snack, will absolutely satisfy hunger on a bike or hike in the woods, and I truly love the ingredients. Aside from that I'd rather have a gluten free meal any day of the week!

I am a very big fan of the Organic Maca Bar. The bar is gluten-free. But, in your review, you did not mention the most important part of the bar. In the Maca world, 5000mg is a large therapeutic amount of Maca. The Potent Foods website states that this is equivalent to 10 large capsules of organic Maca in every bar. Maca is a root, and is the highest growing food in the world. Maca is amazing! It balances hormones in women and men. In Peru, hospitals use Maca to reduce the symptoms of PMS and menopause in women, instead of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It greatly increases strength and endurance in men and women, and safely increases sex drive and fertility. It is a wonderful immune enhancer, and is used to treat anemia in Peru. My family has been taking Maca for years. It is only now begining to catch on. I was so excited when I came across the Organic Maca Bar. I was taking 6 capsules of Maca a day. I would rather take 10 capsules worth of Maca in a great tasting bar. I enjoy all three flavors. I do like the Cherry Chunk the best. These are real tart cherries, which are full of antioxidants. I did not know what the crunchy part of the bar was. I figured from the ingredients that these are the organic maple chunks. These taste like maple candy to me. Although I am gluten-free, I definitely buy the bar for the Maca and the taste.
